NC steering lock defeat/remove

Post by JohnR798 »

NASA requires that the steering lock be removed. Can I remove the complete switch unit and wire to a toggle switch and push button start. Is there any kind of anti theft built into the switch that I will need to work around.

Local Mazda dealer is no help. If its outside whats in the shop manual they are lost

There's an antenna built into the black ring around the ignition key slot. Assuming you're using the stock ECU, and you want to use a separate ignition switch, you'll have to relocate the antenna, and rig a key to be kept in the center of the antenna -- positioning is fairly critical. Once that is done, you can use any switch you like.

Does it need to be removed or just disabled? It's a lot simpler just to cover the hole in the steering shaft with a thin piece of aluminium.
