Our Blue ND hits the dyno for the first time!

With this baseline we can now add exhaust bits and test again.

Our Red ND was 140 baseline the other day before tune, amazingly similar. But WOW the difference in driving both cars today made the extra 30 ft/lbs of torque our tuned Red ND has now very obvious. The midrange of our Red ND feels so much better! Will have to see what we can do this weekend to get our Blue ND up to the level of the Red ND. Likely this ND motor still so new it is a bit tight and will loosen up some with more miles, planning to go back to the dyno Monday. Hmmm, what else do we have to test around here....is that a header in the corner?

Lots of learning on the dyno today about the new ND. We seem to have run into a torque limitation. By that I mean we can get 165 hp on both our ND at the wheels, up from baseline runs of just 140hp, and we can get to that 165HP in several ways but with tunes and exhaust and even the Global Cup Car header we cannot break past that 165hp at the wheels number. So, next question: are there various levels of ECU torque limitation deep in the code...that's what it feels like.

Love this pic, look at all the local Hoopties we had to push past to reach the dyno today!

Expanding on my comments above, graph below shows our RED ND and our BLUE ND. Red line on graph is our RED ND, and the blue line is our BLUE ND. After we proved the Global Cup car header makes solid gains everywhere on our BLUE ND we found that adding tune on top of the header gains only got us to where our RED ND was with tune and our RoadsterSport midpipe and RoadsterSport SuperQ muffler. And you can see the top end where the curves bend over and end up same 165 hp. Once we find and fix the flow issue on the front end we expect our Blue ND with this header setup to go 180 Hp at the wheels.

Race REPORT on OHLINS for ND!

Best ND that I have driven to date, easily the best thanks to OHLINS for ND. Invited local hotshoe Jeff Cawthorne to share the driving duties with me and we ran the car to fast times after I made some adjustments to the settings of the OHLINS to get the balance right. Stock sways in this pic and car is hauling ass into this turn yet the pic shows it rather composed and without excessive lean because it was composed and driveable and without the crazy lean.

Pics of the Global Cup Car header and exhaust. This is version with added CAT, the full race cars don't have the cat in there. Working on version for our STR customers, will likely add resonator too to make sure it can be under sound limits everywhere.

Note the extra added hanger.

Very interesting morning on the dyno. Just had our first CLUB on the dyno and it pulled a much stronger baseline number than our two GT NDs. In fact, the number it pulled was stronger than any NC baseline we ever got on this same dyno. It was about 10 degrees cooler today though still hot and humid. Ultimately this CLUB with our Race muffler and tune still ended up at the same 165hp ceiling that we go with our two GT. So, that opens the question of whether or not CLUB has a more aggressive engine tune from Mazda, or it just had more break-in miles before baseline test? Or simply cooler conditions resulted in this car grabbing a much more aggressive timing table? We will keep passing along the results, sometimes being first just means you are first with more questions instead of answers!

Power difference is very interesting. Looking forward to hear Matt's thoughts.

On a different topic. What size tires are you currently running on your NDs?

I really want to get 17x9 6ULs and would like to run 245/40R17 since there are some great tire choices compared to 235/40R17. However, the fact that they haven't actually been test fitted worries me a bit.

Maybe it makes sense to get 17x8 and 215/45R17 RE-71R. What is your take right now for autox in STR?

Is the grey car pictured above the Club? Why isn't it running the BBS wheels? The Sport/GT wheels fit over the Brembos after all?

Brembos and BBS wheels are a $3400 option on the Club. The standard wheels in the Club are the same as the GT, just a bit darker.
