Need Advice and Feedback for my Mazda 3

Post by KeVINE »

I just recently bought a new 07 Mazda 3 hatchback. I'm a noob when it comes to modding and I was wondering if anyone has any good ideas to increase my performance and horsepower. My budget is $500, so I was thinking of an AEM intake and a new muffler. Does that idea sound good? Should I get anything else? Should I wait longer since my car is new? Thanks.

Hi Kevin,

Yes, start with the easy stuff like the AEM intake. The exhaust is just a little more work to get in so I would do that second. No reason to wait on mods, many folks have the intakes installed before they leave the dealer lot (Mazda sells the AEM intakes as Mazdaspeed intakes at a significant mark up...).

Well I'm going for a deep sound on my engine (like more of a race car), is that a muffler or an exhaust pipe that can give me that sound?

The intake makes a difference on sound but the exhaust will make the biggest change on sound...

When you say exhaust, do you mean an entire new exhaust system that cost around $600 or so, or is there just a certain pipe i can buy that isn't nearly as expensive as an exhaust sytem.... sorry i've been doing research but i'm still a bit confused about things.

I have a couple other questions for brian or anyone else that would like to help me out.... which intake would be better for my mazda 3, http://www.good-win-racing.com/Mazda-Pe ... -1166.html or http://www.eautoworks.com/html/ORD-1-1-1-23448.cfm and would this be a good muffler for my car? http://www.autoanything.com/exhausts-mu ... ctInfoTabs and do you think it would fit on my car? i'm not sure how to find out

Definately go with the cold air first! I would not suggest the purchase of just a muffler, as you'd be better off going with a full cat-back exhaust system. That being said, you may want to consider going with the intake alone and pocket the rest, or spend a little more (before install) and pick up the Eiback ProKit, http://www.good-win-racing.com/Mazda-Pe ... -1241.html
The intake gives you a very nice growl, while the springs dramatically enhance the overall look and dynamics of your 3.

A budget option would be used MazdaSpeed3 parts. Lot's of folks remove those parts and resell them. I got springs and shocks for $150. Exhaust can be had from a Speed3 cheaply too. The Speed3 suspension is a very good handling option for not much money.
