LSD install in NC

Post by tbdomenz »

Any install instruction threads for the OSGiken or Quaife ATB Differential ? What level of difficulty? Tools required? etc.
Thanks

No threads because we don't do it, we take it to a local transmission shop.

I will then assume it's a job for someone with skills and experience beyond the shade tree mechanic. I know the rates will be different in my area but can you give me an idea on cost or hours required so I can verify I'm getting a fair price on the job if I employ a local shop?
Thanks

I think we paid two hundred and something for the last, sorry I don't recall precisely.

$200 is close enough. I'm gonna guess it's about 2hours for a LSD install. Can I further assume it's easier to add the LSD to an existing unit than it is to get a complete rear end "carrier" and make the swap that way?
Thanks

You show 3 Miata LSD's in your catalog.
$799 Factory - Is this MazdaSpeed Cone type?
$999 Quaife
$1605 OS Giken
Using my 2006 6MT as a daily driver in Chicago(snow-ice-wet)
and 200<>250 AutoX runs in the summer months I'm inclined to choose the Quiafe.
Your thoughts?

The factory is okay for street use but for any competition use the Quaife and OSGIKEN are a big step up. Thus, with your schedule of 200+ auto runs each season I would get at least the Quaife. We are down to two of those Quaife units at the special price.

OK Brian, I'm savin up $ as fast as I can! In the meantime I'm thinkin the LSD will cause a tendency to understeer on the AutoX course. I have the Eibach sway bars+Tokico shocks+17x9x245/40 rubber+2.5 degree neg camber all around. Rear sway bar needs to be stiffer? Other adjustments?

I would not bother making any ajustments until you have it installed and had time to try it. Most guys use the LSD to get on the power much earlier because suddenly you can use the power earlier...and if early enough (from apex) that will mean you can use a little throttle rotation (oversteer) as you exit to point the car more accurately than before.
