Our New 2012 PRHT SS Project....

Yeah, I read the same post from the owner who didn't get much benefit from mat, but then I don't really know the details of how he did it and it conflicts with the report of the PRHT owner that I linked in my last post. Walking around the car I find some surfaces that are absolute drums (door panels, rockers, and trunk bottom). The concern about weight is part of the reason I will start with foam under the car, used in all new luxury cars for good reason and it adds almost no weight (even the cured structural foam is about 98 percent air). I did the foam trick on my Fiat 124 twenty years ago and it was a miracle in that car.

doing the trunk bottom and also the divider between the trunk/cockpit helped a lot with the noise. Yes that piece is literally a drum. I went with the cheap route of the roofing tar tape and vinyl floor tiles but it still made considerable difference.

I stayed awake last night thinking about the sound conditions of the car. On longer freeway drives I am still quite surprised by the amount of road noise in the PRHT and determined to do something about it.

Brian, for freeway driving with the top up would you prefer a Soft Top over the PRHT?

I find the sound level more acceptable with the soft top....because it's a soft top. It seems to me the PRHT should be much more successful at being a hardtop when the top is up, hope to improve that result as the project goes forward.

Just officially joined the MX5 world by purchasing a 2012 Special Ed. in white. Have driven miatas before (but never owned one) and am absolutely loving it!

Really interested in seeing how your dd mods progress, because mine too will be for daily driving, and I'd like to eventually mod mine to further maximize the dd experience, while also adding a few extra ponies for street.

Would love to see your supercharger become CARB compliant, and would be standing 1st in line along with a few others I know, if that were to happen!

Will be keeping a watchful eye on this thread and will contribute my own 2cents when I have some. Ha

Got lots of expensive prototypes sitting around. For example, on the left you see unit that uses the same angled exit converter as the PPE, so it looks much like the PPE except we use fewer sections, and give a little more clearance to the alternator with the number 1 primary. Did an optimized version of that style for testing and comparison purposes. PPE went to production with that style because the STR rules required keeping converter in the 'stock location'...but those STR rules are now gone so also experimenting more with style you see on the right.....where we max the length of the primaries by shoving converter down against the lower flange. Still testing versions and a few months from production. Still have a goal of $550 range but won't know for sure until we get there.

Getting very close to final edition......this shot shows latest working prototype for our "RoadsterSport Street" 49 state legal header. Notice we have a larger ceramic core unit pushed down against the lower flange to max the primary length. I don't think we can get any more flow using a header that retains a converter than what you see here.

Oh man I want this. Will the O2 sensors be able to use the standard wiring or need extensions?

For that matter, I see no O2 bungs -- will they be added, or are they on the far side?

Have not attached a bung yet....but will for at least the first sensor after we install it and can see exactly the angle we want it at.

Hope to get this project on the dyno this week with numerous prototype exhaust items, including the header.

Also finally decided on the wheels. Decided I wanted just a mild increase in width to 17x7.5 Enkei RPF1. The catch is that with the bling trim bits on this car we decided we want SBC finish, which does not exist on that size.....yet. Talked with Enkei and we now have 40 of these wheels scheduled for production and they will arrive in about 90 days. Weight for SBC finish usually a few ounces less than standard silver color, because the SBC finish starts with complete polish of the wheel. Thus, expect the result will be in the high 14 pound range, about three pounds less than stock. If anybody else wants a set, we put the pre-order HERE
