Street fun NC parts list opinions.

Post by JohnL074 »

Hi Brian,

I have an 06 NC and would like your and the forums opinion on what to get for a fun street car that's livable day to day. Let me know if something seems not needed or if I'm missing a must/should have.

What I am starting with is a 06 NC Grand Touring 6 Speed
Mazda speed muffler
racing beat sways
Mazdaspeed cold air intake
Ohlins Street coilers
Hawk HPS pads
Cobalt strut tower brace
ILM X brace

What I want to do is
2.5 conversion
factory oil cooler
Exedy clutch happy meal pack
GWR Motor mounts
SS Street header
Helmholtz mid pipe
KOYO radiator
Tomei or Quaife LSD

Any input?
Brian

Great list. I would do the Tomei rather than OSGIKEN for street car, even in competition the advantage of the OSGIKEN is very slight, just tenths of a second that you won't find in street use. I would do our CSF radiator over the KOYO, or even our new triple pass radiator if in very warm climate area. On the motor mounts, our harder rubber mounts with 2.5 conversion lowering brackets.

Thanks for the input. When do you think you can get the lowering brackets in stock? I want to get a set before scheduling an appointment with Rocky's.

Any update on the brackets eta?

Hi Brian,

after a couple of months of thinking, I would rather go with your supercharger kit instead of the 2.5 conversion. My motor has 56k miles on it. To increase reliability, would you recommend changing out the valve springs to better units to better withstand the increased load with the SC? If so what brand and weight and does Rockys normally do this kind of install?

THanks

Nope, for street car the stock valves are fine, no issues with stock redline. Only once we do built motor with higher redline and lots of track duty where we live in that higher rpm range do the valve springs really need replacement. For street duty the joy of the SC setup is that you do not need to wring the neck of the thing at top of rpms to get lots of fun go-go. With the SC it goes hard from idle and the midrange is pure joy without need of downshifts.

Thus, I would skip valve spring upgrades for your street fun machine.

Hello brian. I keep going back and forth but I have saved up enough money and will go with the 2.5 conversion. When are the engine dropping brackets available? How do I reserve a set?

I am told we finally get next batch of those lowering brackets soon. No way to reserve a set until we make those live on the site again, hopefully by July 1.
