Since the gray car is (or was as it stands now) mine, I can comment.
As Brian stated, the fact that I'm running 18s is because of tire sizing. The stock NC sizing is either 205/50/16 or 205/45/17. There aren't really any tire sizes available in either a 16 or 17 that closely match the stock diameter in Kumhos which is what I run. When I was looking at what size wheels to get, I looked at total diameter of the different tire sizes and noted that there were two LARGE sizes in 18s that would work. Both the 245/35/18 (which is what I have on in the picture that everyone has seen) and the 285/30/18 are with in 1/2" of the stock diameter, which is pretty darned close.
So far, I've only run the car with the 245s and the car worked quite well. I did have to roll the rear fenders and got a very minor amount of rubbing at the front. It mostly just worked through the fender liner at the top lip of the fender.
Since I'll be campaigning an NC in CSP this year, I knew that I needed to update to a 5 speed transmission, as the gray car was a 6 speed. In checking pricing of transmissions, I decided on a lark to check into just buying a new car with the 5 speed and then put in an LSD. As it turned out, thanks to Pinnacle Mazda here in Renton, WA, I was able to work a deal that got me an '07 5 speed for a deal that I couldn't pass up. So, now I just need to get either a stock LSD or the Mazdaspeed unit. Not sure yet which way to go, but I'm researching as to what exactly are the differences between the two.
In any case, I'm planning to run 285/30/18s on the car. Since it will likely require some cutting of the front fenders, I'm going to buy two new fenders and do the dirty work on those. I'll be sure to post pictures when I get into this a little more. Hopefully the tires will be on the way this week.
I'll also get a new picture posted tomorrow of the new car with the Enkeis. The new car is Stormy Blue Mica, so you'll be able to see how they look on that color. I have to imagine that it's going to be at least as sexy as the Galaxy Gray was, and am pretty sure it's going to be even better.
For those that want to see more of what I'm doing, you can check out my website at

One other thing to keep in mind is that the weight of the Enkei's is about the same as the stock wheels, so the overall combo of the wheel/tire should be pretty close to stock, meaning that we're getting all the extra grip at no expense of acceleration/braking/etc. I'll try to weigh the 18s vs. the stock 16s tomorrow as well.
