Konis & Original Springs on an NA

Post by Powell95 »

I just installed new Koni Adjustables on the front of my 95 base Miata. Before disassembly, I measured 13-3/4" from the center of the hub to the lip of the front fender. The Konis came set on the middle spring perch which according to the instructions is lower than stock (non-Bilstein).

After reassembling the suspension and lifting the car at the hubs, the hub to fender dimension was 14-1/2". I drove around the block and it went down to 14".

Did I do something wrong or is a 1/4" an acceptable tolerance?

Thanks for any input.

You'll be fine.

The bushings may need a few miles to relax and the alignment may need to be checked which could alter the ride height also.

Indeed, as Mike notes, this is normal with newly installed KONI shocks. They will settle substantially in the first 100-200 miles.

Thanks Mike & Brian. I wanted to lower the car a bit but didn't want to raise it. I'll put some miles on the car and measure again.
