advice on rotors/pads and tracking

hi everyone...

some details...

2008 mx5 with 18500kms - 18" volks with Yoko S drives 225. i have stock rotors + brake pads.

i am planning on taking it tracking.. to shannoville in ontario (not sure if anyone is familiar) .. in any case my questions are the following:

1) will i be okay with stock rotors + brake pads or should i swap out the pads for something a bit more aggressive...
2) should i just replace the rotors + brake pads altogether. do i need to do SS lines as well?
3) am i okay with my 18s and yokos 225..... this set up is slightly lighter than the stock OEMs with bridgestone potenzas

i am not going to go hard on the track. it is my first time but i will still be going full throttle and braking hard...

i want a solution for my rotors and pads.......that will be the most cost effective long term wise as this car is still my daily driver in the summer and spring and fall (no winter). so i want to make sure if i replace brake parts i can still drive it on the street.

can anyone please advise?

Thanks,

Richard

Stock brakes and pads on the 2008 are good, no need to change for the first track events. Likewise, those tires are not track tires but they will be okay for your first track events.

what do you recommend though for street/track use.

also forgive me. but i am not familiar with more aggressive pads or rotors.. will i need to change more often?

Not necessarily. A very aggressive driver could use up a set of stock pads on the track in one day. But usually starting track drivers are not using anywhere near the limit of the car on first track days and their wear on the pads is usually very light. But as you get more track experience you may find that more aggressive pads actually last LONGER than stock pads, because they are working in the temperature range they were designed for, whereas you may get beyond the intended temp range of the stock pads and see faster wear.

My suggestion for first upgrade would be our Hawk HPS pads....which is a mild upgrade, that's what we run on my wife's car as she is learning to autocross and track drive. My own choice for street/autocross/track is our Porterfield R4 but that's barely streetable and you should expect some noise and dust. Also consider stock brake line upgrade to our Technafit MX5 Brake Lines to take some more squish from the system.
