spring rates

Post by Wonk Unit »

In the springs section on the website it says you recommend koni yellows be adjusted for specific spring rates; what exactly does this mean? is there a specific spring rate for the yellows that is best or because they are adjustable you are supposed to adjust the shock to whatever spring rate you have?

If you are talking about the Miata springs page, it says merely that we recommend KONI with the springs on that page ("We recommend Koni adjustable Miata shocks be matched with any of the Miata spring choices below.").

But indeed you would dial them stiffer to match stiffer springs. For example, imagine two customers. One customer has the Racing Beat springs for 94 Miata (196 lb/in front rate)....and the second customer buys our standard ground control kit using 375 lb/in front rate. Both customers buy our KONI SPORT shocks. In general, the customer with the stiffer Ground Control kit will be dialing his Koni Sport stiffer to obtain the same body motion control as the Racing Beat springs customer will obtain at a lower stiffness setting.
