Roadstersport 2 power loss

Post by eastla »

I put a Roadstersport 2 on my stock NC a week ago and it feels like I may have lost power.
Especially down low as I take off, feels less linear and less torque.
Is this common or is it in my head?
Does the muffler change the torque curve at all?
Feels quite loud and like the car is not really going anywhere, also less engine response....

It's in your head, or you have something unrelated to the exhaust going on (like the heat wave hitting most of the country....your car will make less power on hot days because the air is less dense, etc.).

Do you get reduced back pressure and less torque down low with the rs2?

See the dyno thread for many pages on this, the stock unit is not designed to max torque...it is designed for a particular exhaust sound. To that end, the back pressure of the stock unit is not ideal, because they were more concerned with engineering the sound level and sound note that they figured would be most pleasing, and least offensive. See our 2012 project thread for lots more on this point. Every time we experimented with emulating some of the internal features of the factory muffler the dyno curve would return to stock levels, and only by keeping gas velocity higher could we get the torque curve higher than stock.

But for kicks, let's help your car learn the setup by disconnecting the battery for about two minutes...then connect it again and drive as normal and see if you feel a difference.

It has been one week since I installed the rs2.
I have a feeling you are onto something with the computer.
It seems to be driving much better now (I did not pull the battery).
Seems like it may have taken some time to adjust, is that a possibility?

Either way, it is running very well now. Low down power has got back to normal, response is good and I feel an increase in power between 4000-redline.
Sound has improved too, less boomy than when I first fitted it.

I'm now satisfied over all ;)

Yes, now and then we see a car not adjust as fast as we like.... and the disconnect the battery suggestion was to jump start the process.
