Oil Catch can for Supercharged 2010 mx5

I have just ordered my Supercharger and would like to put a catch can in the pcv line.

I have been reading up on Catch Cans for separating the oil from blow-by and found lots of conflicting info on the two different types of cans and how they are installed:

1) vented cans
2) Sealed cans

I thought I might as well go the the place where they might have both been tested.

So what does good-win racing use on their cars and why?

Yep, I saw the thread and didn't quite understand it. The first pic looks like a can that is vented the second looks like a sealed can.

In the first pic you don't use a output to the intake, why? Or is an ouput hooked up? Is the pcv valve still in place?

I don't want to coat the intercooler in a film of oil and thereby lower the efficiency.

Both cans are vented.

Great, so did you leave the pvc valve in place, and what did you do with the intake manifold, just plug it?

I know these are all basic questions, but some installers do it one way and others do someything else and both seem to have great reasons. :0 Since you have been driving a modded miata I would like to follow your lead.

I think we used the PCV connection for our water injector (which only track users need).

Someone just sent me a paper on vented catch cans:

It stated that if you use a vented catch can on the pcv line, you must use a vented can on the crankcase. Otherwise you get a pressure increase in the crankcase. If you hook up a sealed can to the pcv line, you don't need to vent the crankcase.

Does this sound right?

So on your new setup, you used one vented can with two inputs, one line vented the crankcase and the other the pcv. Correct?

That's correct...

Now I understand all the negative comments about the vented cans causing problems. Most of the problems seem to stem from using a vented can only on the pcv line and not on the other. A light dawns. :)

thanks for all the help Brian.
