Balance shafts

Post by JimD282 »

I'm trying to find out, for sure, if the 2.0 MZR, used in the MX5 has balance shafts, or not.

I'm pretty sure I read (miata.net) the 2.5 was the smallest size with balance shafts. Joe at Dynotronics probably knows the answer if Brian can't answer for sure.

The 2.0 does not use balance shafts. The 2.5 does, not sure about the 2.3.

I have a 2.5 block on my NC from a Mazda 6. I removed the balance shafts, removed the gear from the crank and used the stock NC sump. All works well with no issues. You will need to use the timing chain and guides from the 2.5L and a the Cosworth tensioner is a good move.
