FORGED MAGNESIUM 17x9 at just 12 pounds?

Talked with maker early this week of Forged Magnesium wheels. Also talked with several STR Class and MX5 and RX8 track customers privately about interest level and got enough interest to throw out this question to the masses. If we could get a 17x9 Forged MAGNESIUM wheel down to $599 in cost and 12 pounds would there be interest?

Assuming buyers are out there, what offset do you want? STR customers want to run up to 255mm wide tires so my guess is they want an offset around 45 to 48 range right?

+48 would be awesome and I would certainly be interested. What is the spoke design for the wheels?

Have not got as far as the look/design yet....just talking concept right now.

It can be done, it can be done right, should we do it?

price point and weight are certainly in my range to move on, but not looking at 255s or even 245s for that matter for my needs. No chance of other widths? I'm looking at Advan racing at 8" which are more than that ($ & weight) so am open to other alternatives that are not ~$1300/wheel like a forgeline or somesuch. Also would be interested in what the profile would be to fit over calipers on a 328mm rotor, which is doable but can be tight on a 17.

And If this does happen. Please make sure they fit easily over big brake kits.

I'd be interested. I think offset of +48 would be the best choice for tire clearance, based on my experience with +45 and +49.

Are there any durability issues with magnesium wheels? Some years ago, magnesium parts were brittle and prone to cracking, which is why magnesium bike frames never took off. Is this a nonissue now?

Would +48 clear with 255 tires on a lowered NC? I've got 17"x9" 949 racing rims and 235 Toyos WITH rolled rear lips and there isn't much room. My car is lowered with KW Variant 3 coil overs and RX8 red dot front and yellow dot rear bars. Photos from the track show almost nil clearance under high G load corners. I also notice I'm currently rubbing the inside fender liner up front. More offset and bigger tires would only make this worse.

Too rich for my blood, unfortuantely. :(

If you could find a decent 17x7.5 or 17x8 that's 13 pounds or less, and about half that price, I'd be all over it. I have a set of SSR Competition wheels in 17x7.5 for my 2003 WRX that are just over 12 lbs. each. The offset would even work on an NC, but they have the wrong bolt pattern, and I'm not willing to get them re-drilled. Unfortunately, SSR dropped the Competition model, and the Type C, which looks identical, is a couple of pounds heavier.
