NC speedster race car?

Post by JohnR798 »

Getting ready to convert my NC from NASA TT to wheel to wheel.
Going to be building cage over thanksgiving week. I already have a Good-Win fiberglass top and a custom 4130 roll bar. I built the rear bar with the plan of adding the forward bars but!!!

I am thinking/wondering/planning of converting it to a speedster instead. Cut the windshield off and build a low front hoop like the Miata prod cars running in SCCA. I would lose the weight of the windshield, supports, top and upper cage. 65-80# off the top of the car.
But my main reason/thought is areo. I cannot find any real info on how much drag is reduced by removing wind shield. if any when running a top. Most pics of air flow over a car show a huge high pressure at the base of the windshield but an exposed cage has drag as well. The top helps but also traps some air inside. I had to double up on the fastners hold in rear window because of it.

Any thoughts

Talk with Moti at Blackbird Fabworxs, he has lots of experience racing a Miata without the windshield for aero benefit.
