The new Fiat124 is a fun return to my roots, composite picture of me nearly 3 decades ago with original Fiat124 and with the latest Fiat124.

Fiat DYNO Day!
FiatDynoMorning.jpg
Time to answer a few basic questions including:

1. Baseline Power at the Wheels.
2. Does change of muffler help?
3. How does Fiat124 compare to Abarth500 with same motor?
4. How does Fiat124 compare to ND Miata on same dyno?

Does muffler change add power? Yes, this is a muffler delete, effectively just a 2.5 inch straight pipe. Muffler adds about 5HP and 11 Ft/lbs Torque.

BASELINE POWER...145 HP, 169 Ft/lbs torque.
Change MUFFLER.....150HP, 180 Ft/lbs torque.
Fiat124-Muffler-Compare.jpg
Comparison STOCK FIAT with stock muffler to STOCK ND Miata with stock muffler. This really drives home the comparison that the Fiat makes a lot more power under the curve and yet it is slower in all magazine 0-60 tests because of a bit of extra weight and mostly because of the gearing.
Fiat124-MiataND-DYNO-STOCK.jpg
Fiat 124 with stock muffler, Fiat Abarth500 with stock muffler and SPORT button engaged. Notice the 500 goes to a higher redline in stock form, but torque is limited in the low range, likely because of FWD platform and desire by Fiat to limit torque steer potential.

Fiat500 Abarth with Sport button ON/OFF. Curious if Abarth124 gets a difference this big. From driving the Fiat124Abarth at the Press Intro day my guess is that the difference is at least this good on the Abarth124, this result is no surprise to me.

With our Brakes Complete a Fun Run into our local mountains was in order with our friends in the local San Diego Miata Club. Many members of the club were interested in getting a closer look at this blood brother of the ND Miata which shares so much including most the interior, chassis, etc.
