MP62 Supercharger Availability

Post by ScottS479 »

Has the MP 62 supercharger been discontinued. Goodwin does not sell them anymore and Flying Miata is out of stock. No one will respond to an email about availability. Just finished preparing the foundation of my 2011 PRHT with suspension, clutch, LDS, exhaust and body bracing in preparation for the supercharger....an now it is not available. Anyone have any insights?

Hi Scott,

Unfortunately yes, the MP62 is discontinued.

The MP62 kit has always been a bit of a slow-moving item and margins were very thin on them. Lots of interest from customers but the reality was most people liked to look at it and dream of having it but only a few actually bought it. We've accepted that reality for a long time and continued to sell them but with a high minimum order quantity for those kits, we had to make the tough call to cease restocking it when we ran out early last year. There was a brief time following talks at SEMA last year when the manufacturer told us they could reduce the minimum order quantity for us, which we were really excited about and so we placed a fresh order for those kits. Following this were several months of frustration as they retracted their promise about the minimum order quantity, changing the MOQ to be higher than it had ever been before. They said FM had not restocked on this kit at all either. They tried to get an order from FM to lump together with ours to meet the total needed, and we don't know the details of how that went but ultimately it was unsuccessful. It appears FM realized the same thing we did about the profit margin being too slim to sustain the product.

The short version is that kit is no longer being produced at all by the manufacturer and we have ceased trying to revive it.

Thanks for the feedback. Very unfortunate as I have been preparing the car for this upgrade, ready to buy and it is now not available. It may have been a good marketing opportunity to offer one last “final orderl” so we would have known. But I certainly understand the business realities.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

Yep, I have reached out to the maker over and over, little to no reply.

Thanks Brian. Not much you can do when a manufacturer is not willing to manufacture.
