Great reading guys. Check each morning for updates. Keep up the great work.
I'm guessing that you have upgraded to a slick tyre also for this upcoming event? If so what size running etc.

Car ran just RE71R 255/40 on the 17x10. We do have older set of Hoosiers on 18x9.5 in 255/35/18 but didn't get that far with the day. More to come...

Brian wrote:IMSA and Continental series racers have different solutions to sensor issue with RX8 rear bits. Big thanks to Mike Allen for an education on the choices! In brief, simple answer is sleeve NC sensor into the bigger RX8 upright sensor hole, drill out sensor bracket hole for mounting sensor from 10mm to 12mm. As long as normal NC 'ice mode' issues with big tires don't bother you, that's it. This is the choice we are making here.

Option two for better ABS calibration for big tires (less ice mode) is convert entire car to RX8 ABS. Get ABS computer from base model junkyard RX8 without traction control, add matching front 04-08 RX8 hubs, rear RX8 bits as we have done here, and then you have complete RX8 ABS using the rear RX8 sensors we already have here, but you lose speedometer without some additional work.

Brian

I'm a bit confused on where you guys ended up with ABS sensors. In the original post, it said you were using RX-8 sensors, but this post makes it sound like you went back to MX-5 sensors? Can you please clarify? Also, if you used the MX-5 sensors can you elaborate on the "sleeve" mentioned?
It is assumed the car will still sometimes going into Ice mode?
Thanks!

I have never had issue with ice mode, so we went with MX5 sensors. You can convert to RX8 sensors but as explained earlier you need ABS computer from RX8 and RX8 compatible sensors front and rear. Front RX8 hubs on this car from 09+ mean we already have RX8 compatible sensors at the front, they are interchangeable at the front. But at the rear the MX5 ABS computer wants MX5 sensors, so that's what we did. We were going to make a sleeve for snug fit but ran out of time, just drilled out the bracket hole and installed and they are working normal.

Thanks for the reply! Please keep us posted when you get back to the sleeve process.

Exciting times at Willow Springs! I only got some baseline laps in but the car was already ripping. WSIR is a fast track. Just on low boost and conservative pump gas tune at this point and already keeping up with a Porsche Cayman down the long front straight. Had a ton of fun in those five laps catching some fancy hardware including a Corvette and several Porsches.

The fun was ended early by smoke and fire, but I was able to react fast to it. Everybody reading this has a fire extinguisher in their car, RIGHT? With quick reaction the damage was contained pretty well. The turbo had melted the plastic valve cover. It should be noted that our GT2871R turbo is larger than the 2860 intended for the kit, so it sits closer to the valve cover, and we had already done hours of street driving/tuning with no hints of this issue. I feel confident saying a street car wouldn't encounter this. Just goes to show what we already know - that there's nothing else like the abuse of track driving, and that's exactly why we test everything we use at the race track, so that you know it works anywhere no matter what you throw at it. Melting stuff never looks pretty, but the good news is a turbo blanket will solve this issue easily. We've already spoken with the folks at PTP and got a blanket here. Going to replace the valve cover and a few of the hoses that got a bit crispy, get this blanket on, and get back out there for further testing.

It was a cool day but temperatures were rock solid, so it looks like we're on the right track with the oil cooler. We've been trying a few different cooler cores and configurations, honing in on what we'll offer in the kit. More to come on that front after more testing.

We have been chasing a 16x8 that will fit NC for a while. All the designs from Konig have been carefully considered, including everything from Dekagram to newest Countergram. Reality check time....only ONE current design will actually work with the unique fit issues on the NC created by the brake kits we want to clear (like our budget big brakes on our latest NC project) and the toe link at the rear of NC that is so-o-o close to the barrel of the wheel. And that's even assuming we do an aggressive offset like 38 to 40mm. In brief, there is good reason we cannot find 16x8 inch wheels on the market that fit the NC, leaving you guys using increasingly old and suspect FD stock wheels.

Picture showing that rear link issue unique on NC for wheel clearance to a 16 inch:
NC16s.jpg
We have now done the rendering, this is not just some generic rendering, this is the actual rendering of the NC 16x8 version that we could do. If you don't like it, don't care, nothing else we can really do at this time....except wait another few years to see if any other new designs coming might work, and that might easily mean it NEVER happens since it is hard enough at this point to get wheel makers to even think about doing 16 inch. If you do like it, let us know and we will move to the next step.

If we did it, would likely only do ONE finish....the stylish new polished lip version of Hypergram that Konig showed this year at SEMA:

So we stole the Supercharged NC's vented hood for WSIR, but that was a limited time deal, supercharged 2007 wants that hood back! So the turbo car got it's own set of hood louvers today, just in time for our Cars & Coffee event tomorrow.

Perfect Picture by Bryan Spears at FAB9. The point it makes very clearly is how you install this new GT turbo kit like a header, plug and play with our exhaust systems, no chopping up a midpipe!
