Street class, where we think this NC could be a good fit, allows a rear single element wing with some dimension limitations about how high or far back it can be, and allows a 5” splitter up front. Of course, you want to do as much as allowed to maximize the car’s potential. I’m doing some consultation with my buddy and aero guru Moti over at Blackbird Fabworx, will be making a splitter to suit the rules and I have a nice single element Kognition wing that came off Hyper a couple years ago that we can mount up at the back. Planning to do a hardtop to ensure we get good clean airflow to the rear wing. On the class tire Yokohama A052 it should be capable of 1.5 G.

The key will be making it all easily bolt on/off so the car can have a good setup for fast track laps but easily revert to a fun street/autocross config where it gets much of it’s use.[/quote]
Speaking of easy bolt on/off, this seems an ideal opportunity to get both objective and subjective feedback from Good-Win on what an FSTB does for the current configuration. Noticed there wasn't a FSTB used yet on the budget build, so obviously it wasn't needed to get top times of the day in autocross. However, with all the extra forces you'll be generating with extra power, speed and aero in GTA, it's probably time to add a good solid triangulating FSTB to keep the chassis aligned properly.

Since you'll be doing baseline track times on the budget NC before the GTA mods, and the FSTB is a quick and easy bolt on (at least my Cobalt was), hoping you can do some before and after FSTB comparisons on that track day. Expecting you'll get minimal, but measurable time reductions. If nothing else, expecting it will just make it easier to drive consistently fast because it's easier to hit and stay on turn target points.

Also, still curious if you'll be adding the low-profile lightweight braces previously mentioned in this blog.

Yet another exciting project from Good-Win, thanks for sharing the experience.

Braces do NOT make the car faster. That's something tested may times, and I have posted that result many times, there is no need to test it again. Braces are about reduction in NVH and improvements in feel, less cowl shake, the car feeling more solid, but not gains against the clock.

Had some folks asking about heights and weights of the seat vs stock:

The factory seat in our 2006 is a featherweight as factory seats go at 29.50 lbs. That a base package cloth seat.

Sparco Evo II US (which is not the smallest of aftermarket seats) is 19.1 lbs and the PCI bracket is 10 lbs. So we end up with a net zero weight gain for a safer setup that sits us lower and holds us in place far better. If this car was a GT with leather seats, we'd be cutting weight too.

It should be noted that Sparco's current crop of QRT seats are about 5 lbs lighter than this older model, so you could even come in under weight.

And a good comparison of headroom between the two. Dropped a significant amount:

Talking with Stoptech and I can confirm we’re going to go with their C43 BBK so we can have complete confidence with turbo power at the end of the long straights at COTA! Will hammer out the specifics like pads etc once we are all back in the office after the holidays.

Lots of changes coming fast in this space in January! Speaking with Fab9 about turbo, fuel, etc. and getting the details hammered out. We should see a kit here some time next week.

Before we bolt up the turbo let's take a moment to note that we didn't need it for Top Time of Day at last autocross event here! We need the turbo for fast track, but for autocross this car was already top of the field over and over!

One thing we know we need to address is that the factory fuel pump fixture doubles as a surge tank of sorts, with a walled off chamber surrounding the pump to keep sloshing in the tank from affecting the fuel pickup. The trouble is, above about 300whp, in certain track situations you can actually drain that small 'bucket' faster than the small factory returnless style system can refill it, and you end up starving the pump. To fix this, we need to change to a return style setup that can refill the bucket faster.

Fab9 has parts to accomplish this, but then we realized we actually had the parts to do this laying around here, supplied a while back from Dynotronics for our supercharged NC, but never installed because we found it wouldn't clear the supercharger. Kit includes a modified fuel rail, adjustable pressure regulator, return lines to go from the engine back to the tank, and a modified tank fixture with an AN bulkhead fitting and pre-fabbed hard line inside:

We'll get into installing this and see if we need anything else once we're in there.

Parts and wrenches are beginning to fly through the air ;)

Prepping and making room for all the updates right now. Removing header, front brakes, old roll bar, etc. We have a fun weekend in the shop ahead of us!
