Any porting before and afters you can show us for the 2.0 stock intake to the 2.5 head? Can you shave the head just a bit for a little added compression, or does the stage 1.5 cam already have the valve clearance as low as dared with the stock pistons?

Remember we are doing budget build this time, slap in a junkyard motor and see how fast we can go with just the simple bolt in and bolt on bits. The cams are motoeast mild 1.5, not as far as we dare. Porting and polishing head and all the other tricks we did on the premium 2.5 builds here many years ago, see for example the Project Blue E85 2.5 build with ported and flowed 2.5 head at THIS LINK..

Also see NCLIGHT, the original hot 2.5 liter NC.

Sorry, wasn't clear enough on last question. Was looking for better clarification and pictures of how to modify the 2.0 lower intake manifold to better match the stock 2.5 head intake ports. Should be doable with a die grinder, cost little to nothing, and help the 2.0 intake manifold gain a little desperately needed flow. Moto-Mike provided some how to explanation back in Dec 2013 at https://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.p ... 719&page=2 , but the pictures no longer display.

Yes, we re-pin the intake manifold and match it for best flow. Minor work with the grinder. Have not pulled the 2.0 yet, that happens tomorrow night.

Got some emails about the cams we went with here, here is the response direct from Motoeast Mike (now Xero Limit):

The cams are made from new genuine OEM blanks, custom ground in the US to our specs and then re-hardened for durability. There is no welding involved (the usual source of failures) and the Stage 1.5 cams are designed to utilize both stock springs (in stock rev limit applications) or upgraded springs in high boost/high RPM applications. They are Stage 1.5 and not stage 1 because they are right at the limit of what the stock springs can handle, and more aggressive than your typical stage 1 cam. Idle quality is acceptable and they will idle at 900 RPM. We do offer a stage 4 cam that idles at 1100 RPM and is more ideal for high revving engines. We have tested those to 8300 RPM on the 2.0, 7800 on the 2.5.

First post...

Loving this build and following closely. Just curious, are you skipping lsd because of cost?

Yep, our OSKGIKEN is amazing but price tag way too high for this project, decided even our amazing Tomei unit was off the budget this time, so we grabbed a housing from the junkyard with the factory limited slip. Factory limited slip will be enough this time.

Our NEW NC Project stares into it's last Sunset as a mere mortal 2.0 Miata!

Tonight we pull the motor!

Oh! I must’ve missed that part about finding one at the junkyard.

This thread is likely setting the example that I hope one day very soon I will follow.

Onward!
