like HP, you can NEVER have too much cooling on these cars. the 3 pass is a really nice set up we have used on several really high output turbo 2.5 builds, and it, in addition to a decent oil cooler set up, is a really good foundation to any quality build, IMO

Ditto what Joe says, cooling is foundation work, not a place to save, it is a place to kill a good motor too easily in these cars, which we have done and don't wish to repeat.

Concur that the GWR triple pass is a really nice piece, and would definitely choose it for high power builds or when future power increases are planned. However, for this budget build, the radiator cost more than the motor did.

The CSF #7015 is also a nice piece with the same core size, thickness and B tube technology as the triple pass, and it seems to have proven itself in moderate HP racing conditions. At near half the price of the triple pass, it appears to be a better value for a 200ish HP budget build NC. Do you really only recommend the CSF #7015 for non-racing applications?

It's not the cost of the motor I worry about, it's the 15 hours of hard work to swap it. As noted, compromised ring tension and lost horsepower on really good 2.5 motor on very hot August SCCA day in 'Project Blue,' which was our first dual purpose 2.5 project. Think we had the KOYO in that project at the time, similar to standard CSF and certainly enough for any 2.0 normally aspirated use as it was designed, and any street normally aspirated use of 2.5, but autocross/track is a lot of extra stress and we have failed on that stress test once before, part of what motivated the development of the CSF triple pass. Rather than learn the lessons of that history again on this project, we do it right on cooling from the start so we don't need to swap the motor yet again.

And now that we already did the original budget purpose of showing up and beating everything with doors with junkyard motor NC, we look ahead to what is next and that might include new boost kit this Summer.

Final BEST....196 HP.

Tomorrow will post the sheet showing best with 2.0 and this result.

RX8 hubs for those running hard on 17x9 or 17x10 wheels like we do, the stock front MX5 hubs fail under the stress eventually so we just got ahead of that on this project (we didn't wait for them to die, we have killed enough of them on prior projects and getting only halfway through a track day weekend when it happens is something I prefer to avoid).

Comparison with the 2.0 in the motor previously. The 2.0 had exhaust system, but no cams, no intake. Up 40 hp, about 50 ft/lbs torque! Feels good... :mrgreen:
