I posted pics of the car on facebook NC group while we were getting it ready and buddy Moti of Blackbird Fabworx noted that we still had the track angle set for the rear spoiler. We cranked it more and the car got faster and easier to control at the limit, so we cranked it more and the car got even faster. If I had not listened to Moti, don't think we would have taken home Top Time of Day. Did not intend the day to be a test day for the Blackbird Fabworx Lexan Spoiler, but it was fun and very satisfying to get the positive results with it.
For shame!

Those rims look shit hot btw, looking forward to seeing the results on the track - actually it would be very interesting to see if you could rope a few potential customers into doing a track day with you guys to see the difference between the semi-pro & novice driver once all is said and done!

Congrats on the result too - you bested not only my sacred Lotus, but also the woman I loved in high school (the Ferrari!!).

At least it wasn't a Diablo...

Brian, Will the new cams cause a problem w/ smog? What did you do w/ the old motor? Will 3.5 negative camber cause a problem w/ tire wear? Thanks.

Yes, that much camber is not street friendly, it's race friendly. Yes, cams are not CARB. Gave the 2.0 motor to young kid with NC and blown motor who needed it more than we do.

Ok, will need to figure out how to de camber car for non event driving. Set the compression to min and the car was a bit more street friendly. Still need to deal w/ loud muffler.

Brian wrote:Got some emails about the cams we went with here, here is the response direct from Motoeast Mike (now Xero Limit):

The cams are made from new genuine OEM blanks, custom ground in the US to our specs and then re-hardened for durability. There is no welding involved (the usual source of failures) and the Stage 1.5 cams are designed to utilize both stock springs (in stock rev limit applications) or upgraded springs in high boost/high RPM applications. They are Stage 1.5 and not stage 1 because they are right at the limit of what the stock springs can handle, and more aggressive than your typical stage 1 cam. Idle quality is acceptable and they will idle at 900 RPM. We do offer a stage 4 cam that idles at 1100 RPM and is more ideal for high revving engines. We have tested those to 8300 RPM on the 2.0, 7800 on the 2.5.
What valve springs would you recommend for the 1.5 cams? I have heard the valve springs from the MazdaSpeed DISI engine would work well...?

We did stock valve springs, not building motor for high rpms, using meaty middle range.
