Koni Ground Control Conversion

Post by avera01 »

Hi Brian,

Noticed the new product: Koni Ground Control Conversion which makes the Koni shock a coilover system.

1) So how does that compare in terms of handling and ride quality to the Koni adjustable shock with the RoadsterSport Springs?

2) Is there a loss of travel with this kit vs just using the adjustable perch and a stock or upgraded spring?

3) Isn't installing this on an adjustable height shock redundant?

The KONI 'height adjustment' is less than a handful of settings whereas the Ground Control can be infinitely fine tuned in a wider range. There is some loss of travel that increases if you use this to go really low as compared to a shorter body coilover.

Hosting this pic here for use elsewhere, but relevant to this topic you can see here the GC kit installed on OLD version of Koni shocks which have the spring perches welded to the shock body - note install on this old version of Koni is more involved than NEW version which has removable perches because on the front shocks on these old version Konis you must grind and remove the front spring perches to get the sleeves to fit, and in pic you can see the front spring perches have been removed.
GC kit on NEW version Konis with multiple perch positions and removable perches are much easier install, no grinding of anything required.

Difference between the GC kit and the multiple perch positions on new version Konis illustrated in this picture - with the GC kit, the spring perch can be placed in any position on that threaded sleeve, giving you infinite fine adjustments of the ride height over a much wider range, whereas the Konis just come with a couple spots you can place the spring perch at.

How does the included Eibach springs and springs rates (375/250) compare with your RoadsterSport springs (300/200) in terms of handling, travel range and ride comfort for spirited daily and canyon/mountain driving? I prefer driving at stock height but may consider 1/2" lower.

It appears that the bumpstops are not included; do I also need to get your 36mm hard/58 medium BS kit?
