2006 Replacement Clutch

Post by ToddW187 »

Well, I'm pretty sure my clutch is finally giving up the ghost in my 2006 5-speed. When I'm driving along in gear, giving it some beans (not even all the beans) causes the engine to rev without taking the transmission along for the ride. Could this be some kind of adjustment in the pedal, or is it definitely time for a new clutch? (120k miles, 6 or so owners so the history is unknown) If it is the clutch, what's the recommendation on replacing the flywheel?

I've left the car pretty much stock except for a front bar and Bilstein B6 shocks (and intend to leave it that way). Since I do as much autocross with it as I can, it looks like the Exedy Stage 1 clutch kit would be right for me, but I'm hesitant to double my money to do the lightweight flywheel. I'd also like to be able to make the next local autocross in 2 weeks, and I'm not sure if it's realistic to get the stock flywheel resurfaced in that timeframe.

Thanks for your insight and advice!

Yep, sounds like clutch slip.

Thanks Brian,

I've been doing some research on the different options available for clutch and flywheel. I see that there are different clutch kits for the 5-speed vs the 6-speed. Is there any difference in the flywheel for the 5-speed vs the 6-speed transmission?

Thanks again!

Flywheels are the same for all versions of the manual NC transmissions.

Thanks Brian!

Your staff was able to ship my order quickly. And directly to the shop here in San Diego.

The tech had a tough time replacing the engine mounts. And the Clutch master cylinder was replaced with stock.

I love the throttle response on the light flywheel. And the clutch grab is secure at any rpm.

Lola feels much more peppy now.

Thanks!
