Sorry, don't have a firm date for CARB. They decided to include the 2009 in the process and that delayed the prospective CARB date until sometime in the fall.

NOT a simple install. Nothing particularly tough but many MANY steps to be done right (read this thread from the start...and find instructions in instructions section of this forum). Figure 12 hours by a pro mechanic. Yes...installation right here in San Diego.

I recently installed the AEM CAI.
I took the liberty of Emailing Cosworth asking if the S/C will work with the CAI.
This was their reply:
"Ronald,
The answer to your question is no.
Our kit includes a new air box lid with a larger diameter MAF housing
and the ecu calibration is scaled to work with the diameter if that
housing.
Using any cai will cause detonation and poor performance.

Detonation is ping, or pre-ignition. That's incomplete combustion that causes rough running. With the optional extra software upgrade you could calibrate to work with the CAI....but certainly less work to simply sell the intake when you get the supercharger (you won't miss it once the supercharger goes on).rr1santos wrote:okay cool.

hmm.. okay..
i can probably drop the CAI in my moms AUTO NC?
but if i were to calibrate it...wouldn't it improve performance of the S/C
CAI would offer better air flow since it's air entering the grille vs air from the upper half of the bumper (given theres a panel inbetween the stock airbox tube inlet and the radiator seems like little airflow to none)??

Far from clear with the forced induction that you would notice any difference with the CAI given the tuning issue that comes with not using the box that Cosworth designed to work with the supercharger. Thus, I suggest the potential downside easily outweighs the upside.

"Rocky" does the install in about 12 hours. He owns a Miata, and works on them every day and customers have driven from as far as Alaska for Rocky to do their Miata supercharger installs. Figure roughly $900 for install. As for dyno tune, we don't have a dyno here, but there are several local places we have used and can direct you to.
