Mazdaspeed 3 Wheel/Tire Sizes

Post by djcarguy »

Has anyone out there put 17x8 (or 8 1/2 ) wheels on an MS3?

I was hoping to run a 235/40/17 and reduce unsprung weight

Any suggestions/comments?

Thanks,

Stock they run on 18x7.5 wheel's and 215/45/18 Bridge RE050A tire's(25lbs)... First thing, the tire is good but they weight to much and the overall tire diameter is huge 25.7''! Keep your wheel's but trade your tire for a smaller tire diameter like 225/40/18 or my personal best choice 225/35/18 Michelin PS2 (20lbs), 24.2'' overall tire diameter... Your gone a have a much better acceleration and some whp gains because of the weight lose!

Hmm, I think the late model Mazdaspeed 3 uses a 215/40-18. A lot of owners are using the RX-8 18x8 wheels as they are about 3 lbs lighter @ 21.5 lbs then the OE 18x7.5" 3 wheels. You could go with a set of RPF-1's in a 18x7.5" as they are @ 17 lbs. I have a set of Silver RPF-1's on one of our MX-5's I might part with? I'm still looking for a 2nd set of FD non reinforced wheels as they are 15 lbs. (this is the lighter of two wheels made for the RX-7)

Cheers

Many installs with no issue. However, one MS3 owner reported clearance issue to the larger brakes that come standard on the MS3s.... That one customer was a track customer and he added a spacer that cured the issue for him. Other MS3 owners have had no fitment issues....so not sure why several MS3 owners have had no issue and one MS3 owner had issue...perhaps minor variance in the factory specs for those larger MS3 front brakes.

:?: What about a 235/45/17 size tire on stock suspension. Will this fit w/o rubbing?

Sorry I didn't see this before. We have fit as much as 255/40/17 with stock suspension.

Wow... Holy Crap!

This car is my daily driver and I want to keep a 45 sidewall aspect ratio. And since I'll be on stock suspension, I don't want to worry about rubbing issues. Or the "4x4 look."

So, 235/45/17 is a good fit on the 17 X 9 rims that you guys sell?
