235-40-17 tyre best 17 inch wheel match

Post by slvrspd »

Brian ,
Which would be a better match for Falken RT 615 `s in 235-40-17 ;-the RPF-1 in the 17 by 8 or the 17 by 9 in the 45 mm offset ?(I already have the RS+ M and Toyo T1R setup for the NC that you sell for my daily driver)
I am looking for a stickier tyre I can drive to the track and back ,thus the Falken choice.

If we care about keeping fender lips untouched then 17x8 with 48mm is the way to go. On the other hand, if the criteria is which combo is FASTER...then certainly the 45m 17x9 will give the tire slightly better support, for a more stable contact patch, slightly more ultimate grip with slightly sharper turn-in. For a street toy you won't feel much difference.... (and if you add enough camber it won't rub)but since this is your track combo you would feel the difference. With that in mind also look at the new Toyo R1R or R888 in the same size on the 17x9 as slightly faster (though also slightly faster wearing) than the Falken.

The 235/40/17 fit also on the stock 17x7 GS and GT wheel's... I see many of them on the race track with this size!
I LOVE MY MX-5 :)
