Buying a set of wheels from Good Win, but I need to understand suspension offset theory just a little bit better. Car is MSM on Xida race, mostly street, occasional future track.

Choices…

RFP-01 15 x 8 ET28
PF01 15 x 8 ET35
Dekagram/Hypergram 15 x 7.5 ET35
RFP-01 16 x 7 ET35

These are not in order of lightness, but they are in order of wider to narrower stance.

Topic 1 (assuming tire and is constant);

Even with appropriate negative camber in place, are lower offset options prone to making contact with car sooner than higher offsets at lower ride heights?

For a 15 x 8 wheel with 28mm offset like RFP and with appropriate negative camber…..as the car is lowered say from 5” to 4” is one ultimately forced to roll fenders, or forced into a rubbing situation because of the low offset? One would assume negative camber must be increased as you go lower, but eventually you run out of room. Contact happens sooner with a lower offset, correct?

Conversely, the higher offset options listed above are more free to be set at any ride height without interference, correct?

Topic 2 (…perhaps heresy).

Comparing comfort and/or responsiveness between a 15 x 8/28 RFP and the 16 x 7/35 RFP, can it be argued that they would be very similar? The shallower stiffer sidewall of the 16 x7 makes up for the less sidewall support from the 7” wheel width and therefore feels equally responsive, just as quick?

I have ignored weights in my question. The lightest best street choice I would think is the Dekagram/Hypergram at just over 11lbs. The 16 x 7 is the heaviest.

Hope I’m not overthinking it. Each of the choices work. I just don’t want to get boxed into fender issues down the road.

Thanks!

Yes, lower offsets more challenge to fit, but lower car makes it easier thanks to gaining negative camber, which tips top of tires inward. So, that 35mm 15x8 choice will plug and play on your NB, the 28mm and 25mm offsets need more negative camber/and potential fender lip roll.

Yes, the 15x8 with 205/50 will be as responsive as 16x7 that has less sidewall to flex with 205/45 in exchange for giving up some sidewall support. Generally we always prefer 15 inch on NA/NB because the tire selection is much better.
