Here it is....Toyo 245/35/16s on Enkei's fabulous RP-F1 16x8. For all you traction starved types..this is the WIDEST street tire you can get on a 90-05 Miata without serious work. Stocklike 22.8 inch diameter with this combination but 9.6 inches wide! We did NOT road test today but turning the wheel lock to lock and checking clearance all around under this particular Miata suggests that NA owners just might have to roll the rear lips a little depending on amount of lowering and camber but NB owners are likely clear. The Miata in these pictures is VERY low...just 11.5 inches center of wheel to lip in the front, and a little over 12 inches in the rear. Most lowered Miatas are NOT this low so we are reasonably confident that in fitting this Miata...this combo should fit most. We also have Toyo T1r in 215/40/16 which will work very well on this rim, and the slightly taller 225/40/16s in the same tire.

I like this shot because it shows that with the right offset even 245s can tuck under the fenders.

P.S. Our models in the background are world's most decorated Miata autocrosser George Doganis and world's greatest tire mounter Steve Coe. Thanks to Steve also for use of his STS2 car for these photos.

Nope, not much reason to test them on an NB. An NB has much more room for wheels and tires. In short, if they fit NA...they fit NB even easier.

I ask because the front is a tight fit with a 205/40-16 at full lock. I think my front ride height is 12.25" at the moment. I've also seen evidence that wide tires will rub sway bars in the front and with my big 1.25" bar, it's that much closer to the tire.

And let's say it does rub the sway bar at full lock....so what? The ever popular race combo for years on the Miata was the 15x7.5 SSR Comps. With their 43mm offset and loaded with 225/45/15 Hoosiers (section width of 9.8 inches compared with total width of just 9.6 inches on these 245 Toyos), the Hoosiers would rub at full lock on the sway bar. But it was only at full lock and full lock is for parking lots and three point turns ONLY. So it was not a safety issue or a driving issue so not a concern. I ran that 15x7.5 and 225/45/15 combo for nearly a year before I even noticed some paint was missing from the sway bar. And that was 43mm offset...these 16x8s are 38mm offset...an extra 5mm of space away from the sway bar.
