RX-7 16x8 @ 50 et

Hello Brian,

I've noticed that you have mounted these wheels on an NC with a 245/45/16 tire. Would these combo require lip rolling and what was the weight of the combo as compared to the factory 17 wheels and tires? Any suggestion of a light 245/45/16? Thanks.

Weight depends on particular brand and model of tire and also on the 16x8 version that you get (range on the RX7 FD 16x8 wheel was 13 pounds to over 15 pounds). Sorry, will require slight fender lip roll for most.

Brian, is the RX-7 16" wheel lighther then the stock RX-8 16" stock wheel? Also, can I run the 225/45/16, 16x8 49mm offset without fendor modifications?

Have not weighted the 16 inch RX8 wheel but I seem to recall it is heavier and narrower....16x7.5. Yes, could easily get that tire size in stock fenders with a 48-50mm offset.

Pretty sure the Rx-8 wheel is a heavy lump (22-23#). I have a set on my Speed6, and they are not really Miata suitable.

Brian do you think that 225/50/16 slick tyres (Kumhos' if that makes any difference) on 16X8 FD wheels will fit without requiring any fender rolling?
I am app. 1.2" lower than stock and have app. 2 degrees of negative camber.
I am now running a set of 20/61/16 Michelin slicks on these wheels and they fit fine.

I think the 225/50/16 with 2 degrees negative camber at that 1.2 lowered height should work with no rolling needed.

Another data point: my 16x8 FD rims with Toyo T1R's mounted (225/50) weighed the same each as my OE 17" wheel/tire combo.

I did not have to roll the fenders, and my car is sitting on MS springs with the sport package bilstiens.

What are the pros/cons of 225/50 vs. 245/45 on this rim, all other things being equal.
