I've noticed that you now have this on the menu , can you tell if there's enough meat behind the mounting plate for a 3-5 mm shave?
Going topless in public is never indecent, it's life on a roadster even if you're barely street legal.
You missed the call of the question MX-5 Cup. He wants to know if he can effectively change the offset to 48mm to bring the whole thing under the car a little more.
Sorry, don't have a set of the 17x9 right now to look at the mounting pad to tell you if there is enough meat to shave down a few mm. That size is not a stocking size, we send them direct from Enkei because...as you can imagine...we don't sell a lot of sets. Nice picture of them mounted up in the RP-F1 thread of the wheel gallery.

Thanks Brian! Do you know what's the minimun thickness of the mounting plate should be maintained for safety (street application) if 3 mm were to be shaved from a +45 et? More specifically, do you know where the RPF 1 17x9 @ +45 was derived from, is it from the +35 et and was just also shaved by the manufacturer?
What I can tell you is that Enkei will not give a minimum thickness. My bet is that the 45mm is a shaved version of the 35 (this is what Enkei usually does....for example the 15x7 41mm is a shaved version of the 35mm, etc.).
Thus, I think you must assume that you will need a little fender lip roll to use this size.

Needs a light lip roll. Now have lots of these in stock...and have done plenty of installs:
17x9" Enkei RPF1, 45mm offset, mounted with 245/40ZR17 BFGoodrich g-Force R1 tires...so YUMMY!

Hi Brian, after contacting several wheel manufacturer I have noticed that the average mounting plate thickness for their wheels with +45 offset is 30 mm (1.19 inches). You're right, in most cases these wheels are derived from their +35 et config just shaved. Now it would only take 0.18 of an inch to turn these +45's to +48 offset. I'm not an engineer but the 30 mm thickness would have been calculated based on the highest end of the safety margin. Would you be kind enough to ask your customer who purchased the RPF1 17x9 @45et if he can eye ball (if not measure ) the thickness of the mounting plate? (Just love the looks of the 17x9's)
With regards to rolling of the fender lips, would it be better to just grind/shave it so as not to alter the shape of the fenders? Shed some light please Miata God

I would not do a grind to fit the 45mm offset....you don't need much roll to make this rim work. It is such a small adjustment that turning up the inside lip can easily be done without altering the shape of the exterior.
I will talk with Enkei about the pad thickness on this one...
