Hey autocrossers, got your single sided much lighter exhaust almost ready. Working with Racing Beat on the project and we took the prototype for a day of testing to Buttonwillow Raceway last week. No problem with sound meters...very mellow actually (totally streetable) and yet a good 20 pounds or so lighter than the stock setup. Should be in production soon.

Next comes the Racing Beat intake setup...rotationally molded. Stay tuned.

Good to hear Brian, just in time for the Atlanta ProSolo. :) Nice re-design on the site too.

It is DONE. I have sent the final back to Racing Beat so they can make the jig for production. I want one of these on my RX8. I am a weight savings fanatic and I like saving 20 pounds over stock.

Installation is pretty easy given that it is a single sided. Has an interesting ladder brace that goes across to the empty side to use the exhaust hanger over there so that the entire assembly does not move around. Sound is not bad at all for a race exhaust and I plan to drive on this around town when the production units are ready. Around town it is about the same sound level as the Borla...crusing down the freeway you hardly notice it. On track at full song it is a little louder than the Borla.

Since this is intended for the autocross guys we did some sound meter tests and I could not get it to roar above 91db.

Hey Brian,

How are you on the single exhaust and the 18x8x45 mm offset doing at this time. Do you have prices?

RX8 RB single side race EXHAUST. This low demand item got shelved when Racing Beat ran into BIG production delays on their bread and butter Miata exhausts (which out sell the RX8 stuff at least 20 to 1). I am having lunch with Racing Beat's Jim Langer tomorrow and hope to get the latest update then.

RX8 Wheels. On the 18x8s....demand was surprisingly low so we put the next custom production run off in favor of other orders to Enkei like the 18x9.5s for the STU and street guys which have proved a much better seller. Also, the SSRs came back in stock and that likely had something to do with killing the demand on the Enkei 18x8. Interestingly enough, in the 18x8 size the SSR COMP is about a pound lighter than the same size Enkei RP-F1 but in the 18x9.5 size the Enkei RP-F1 has the advantage at just 17.2 pounds....lighter than the SSRs in that size and the 45mm offset of the Enkei has proven perfect for 275s under stock fenders.

Brian, as far as mounting up the single exhaust, thats a no brainer. My question is, what does it look like from the back of the car? I'm tempted to use this as a daily driver mod. But I'm not quite certain what it looks like mounted up. Do you have any photos?

Thanks,
Kevin

Photos would not help in this instance because the prototype has a tip out the back but the production piece does not. Production part has the exhaust tip turn down toward the ground which saved a little more weight and lowered sound level a little more (this is the way they do it for track in the Speed world challenge cars.).

Frankly, with only one tip it looked fine and with no tip the rear square holes look like diffusers...fine by me.

Thats cool. I'm thinking of placing mesh screens in the empty rear bumper guards that go around the OEM tips. I'm looking for a way to make it look nice also - any ideas?

I think your idea should work fine, some metal mesh screen, trim to fit, spray paint before install...
