JIC Magic Coilover - clunking post install

Post by ScottyStyles »

Brian,

I ordered a set of JIC Magic's from you for my RX-8 recently. I just got them installed, and now while driving around there is a metal on metal clunking noise that occurs. This only happens when I hit a bump with JUST the right front tire. Any ideas? I'm going to get back in there and make sure everything is tightened down properly this week, but just want to check for other ideas prior to tearing everything apart again.

My first thought is what we call spring clang. Over big dips the suspension unloads and the spring bangs around. You can kill that by putting more reload on the spring. Usually about a quarter inch, or slightly more, of pre-load is enough.

That was it! I took the wheel off, grabbed the spring, and I could rattle it around like nobody's business. Thanks for the help Brian.
