Spoiler Installation

Post by Malcolm »

I was looking at the trunk spoiler for my 1997 Miata part number 30-1132. Can anyone tell me how this mounts to the trunk lid? Bolt on or 3M tape?
Thanks

Instructions
Note: We suggest that you have the installation done by a professional body shop. Fit the spoiler and make sure you are happy with the look before you paint the spoiler or drill any holes in your car.
1) Remove the 2 screws from the lip spoiler. There is one at each end. ( 3B )
2) Place the spoiler on the end of deck lid and become familiar with how both contours mate together.
3) Center the lip spoiler on the deck lid using the third brake light and outer edges of the deck lid as references. It may help to mark the general position of the spoiler with tape or some other method that will not scratch the paint. Be absolutely certain that you are happy with the way the spoiler fits, and the way it looks before you proceed.
4) Once satisfied with the position mark the locations of the mounting holes on the deck lid.
5) Use a center punch to dimple the sheetmetal where the holes will be drilled. The center punch will make a dimple that will keep the drill bit from walking off across the surface of the paint.
6) Use a small drill bit to make a pilot hole. Enlarge the two pilot holes with a 1/4” drill bit. De-burr the holes.
7) At this point, you can prep and paint the spoiler.
8) Clean the surface of the deck lid where the tape will touch with little denatured (rubbing) alcohol and a clean, soft rag. A little silicone sealer around each bolt hole will prevent water from getting to the bare metal.
9) Peel the first 1/2” of the protective cover off each separate piece of the 2-sided tape.
10) Have one person carefully hold the spoiler above the deck lid while a second person feeds the mounting screws up through the trunk lid and gets them threaded into the spoiler.
11) Once the screws are threaded into the spoiler, continue to hold the spoiler above the deck lid as the other person carefully pulls on the loose ends of the protective covering of the 3M tape until the sticky tape is completely exposed.
12) Carefully lower the spoiler until it contacts the read deck lid. Apply pressure
