Supercharger

Post by crburrows »

My Mazda Protege is now 10 years old (1997), and has only 88,000 km's on it, and so I'm thinking I'll prolly keep it a while.

That said, I'm also thinking of having a little fun.

The engine puts out at 92HP, so its acceleration (especially in 1st gear) feels a little sluggish (it's actually not too bad once I get it into 2nd).

So I'm thinking of installing a supercharger. I've seen some that draw power from the alternator, rather than the belts, which claim to increase output by 25HP.

Has anyone had any experience doing this? Does the alternator supercharger work as claimed? Are there any things I should be doing to my car before installation (I'm planning to get new tires and make sure that all fluids are up to snuff - anything else?) Will my engine explode and send a piston rod through my hood? Am I being an idiot?

Thanks in advance.
