I've owned my 2006 MX-5 for over 5 years now, and have prepared it for SCCA C Street Prepared autocross competition. While ordering some more stuff from GWR today, I looked at my account and decided to add up all my orders...big mistake.
I've spent nearly $15k on mods for my car with Brian alone - several sets of Enkei wheels are the biggest culprits (5 and counting), plus a Racing Brake BBK, full exhaust, etc.
I haven't even done any work on the inside of the engine! I do have a spare motor and 5-speed tranny I haven't installed yet, and ordered more stuff today for the install after Nats.
The annual tire bill for autocrossing is also outrageous - I purchase at least 2 sets of Hoosier tires each year, sometimes 3 sets (at around $1500/set) to keep up with my addiction.
Stupid calculator...the numbers MUST be wrong.
My only solice is that Cyberbug has spent more than me.
Don't tell my wife...
How much have you spent?

Re: How much have you spent?
It's only 3k a year.
Of course you could probably sell some of it without a complete loss so there is a recapture amount.
If you've won any money maybe you want to claim a small business investment and loss. I am sure if we played with this awhile we could come up with more bs to justify your insane habit.
I know ... "don't tell your wife." I hope she doesn't look online.

Re: How much have you spent?
When you put it that way, it doesn't seem all that bad.
But, that amount doesn't include dyno time, the Sniper/Delta Force tune and Commando equipment, a LARGE number of alignments and cornerweight/balance sessions, 4 full sets of street tires, regular maintenance with Mobil1 synthetics, labor to install the exhaust and LSD (I know my limits), all the fabrication that Kurt Janish has done for me, the Sparco seats, the huge car stereo that I installed...and then removed...two different full suspension systems - custom Koni coilovers, and the AST 5220s I have now - that I purchased from the manufacturers (not including the "loaner" Moton system Jason Saini installed...it didn't cost me anything, but I had to give that back), and on and on and on...
I need to get my drink on.

That's why I like to go pick it up myself. A good excuse for a ride and avoids the UPS truck. In the end she always knows but sometimes it helps to delay ... a little.roadster_nh wrote:You can hide the expenses, but not the UPS truck.
