Advise on rear subframe brace bending Rally X

Post by KD8LZT »

I have a 2002 SE which I rally cross and auto cross. Twice during Rally cross events the rear cross bar of the rear sub-frame brace has been bent up to the point that the exhaust touches it. Is there a way I can prevent this happening?
It is the top of the attached photo (which is really the back)

Thanks,

Bob

Hmm, you could do some serious crash/splash shields for the bottom.

Not sure what else to suggest given that Rallycross is great fun but tends to tear up the bottom of low cars.

I can imagine a simple series of protective skid plates, like an extension of the Cobalt item but going further back.

Thanks Brian,
Kind of what I figured. I could do what the WRX cars do with skid plates over the whole bottom, I like the triangle pieces over the suspension part. :)

Any idea how they deal with the exhaust heat?

Seems like anything I hit that can bend that U shaped steel cross brace would not be kind to an aluminum skid plate.

Some vents/louvers to toss air up into the exhaust channel should handle the heat as long as you don't seal it all up.
