With thanks to Mike at MotoEast for the tune work our supercharged 2007 turned TOP TIME OF DAY at the BMW Club Autocross yesterday...by more than 3 seconds! Amazing how cool the car runs now with the combination of cooling mods mentioned above plus E85, looking forward to Summer now!

Clutch Update.

Working on a new clutch with our friends at SpeedSport. Using an Exedy HD disc but adding a much improved pressure plate results in clamping force equal to the Carbon/Carbon setup but at lower cost. Why? The goal is to beat the ACT for price and clamping force and feel...at a lower price. This will NOT have a stock-like clutch pedal feel like the Carbon/Carbon does but hope to beat the ACT and give customers a clutch that can hold 300+ hp at the wheels at lower cost. Installing this week and will start thumping hard on it at SCCA event this weekend.

UDPATE!

Many YEARS of beating on this kit and it still rocks!

In fact, the very FIRST MP62 kit for NC MX5 just hit a new mark, 308 HP at the wheels!

Why does MOTOEAST Mike have that very satisfied looking smile?

Because Mike just tuned the MOST Powerful 2.0 MP62 Supercharged Miata in the world...308 HORSEPOWER at the wheels!
Supercharged-MX5-300.jpg
We have seen peaky Rotrex 2.0 installs on E85 hit similar peaks but not with over 260 ft/lbs of torque like this beast makes! Notice it starts and finishes 210 ft/lbs of torque strong and is north of 250 ft/lbs of torque from 3000 through 6000 rpms. Still on the 5 speed transmission so we are packing a spare 6 speed figuring we might crush the trans pretty quick this weekend at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

Most amazing that this is the FIRST NC MP62 install from 2007. Cosworth officials personally drove us the very first kit that year and we have been beating the snot out of it for 8 years! So this blower is far from tight and fresh at this point and it's a serious testament to the durability and reliability and ultimate expansion potential of our kit (link for kit details) that after eight years it can do over 300 at the wheels! Note this is still our standard 1.6 inch Max Power Header, not our 1.8 prototype we are still working on.

Previously did 262 HP at the wheels on pump gas and decided to make the switch to E85 to see what it could do on Corn and an updated tune from Mike of MotoEast. Added Mike's Big diameter intake, upgraded to thicker heat exchanger. This car using our RoadsterSport Max Power Combo exhaust...still our original 1.6 inch primary version. This is the best chart I have ever seen for this MP62 blower on the 2 liter motor and Mike did it with over 80F temps in the dyno room today and without maxing the timing. Mike figured from his experience that a few more degrees and the car could hit 325hp at the wheels.... but we are rushing out the door to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for fun this weekend and 300 is 'enough' for fun this weekend. :D

Shout out to Guy Ankeny for his services in rebuilding our Ohlins in this car. Like the supercharger the Ohlins in this car were the original NC test set from many years ago and had never been refreshed. It had become something of a durability test to see how well this car could keep performing on the original units without revalve. After 8 years it was finally time and Ohlins was backed up 8 weeks, Guy was available. For those who do not know of Guy, he is a National SCCA champion in the Miata, knows shock revalving like few others do, and he did an amazing job on ours. He can be reached by email, (contact us for the email, I would post it here except that spambots would find it).

It did. We had a 6 speed with us just in case....and thankfully did not need it.

More pics from the weekend, Top of the Time Sheets all weekend, best of 1:39.8 without passengers and then cruised to consistent 1:42 times all weekend with passengers. The most 'easy' to drive fast Miata we have ever built.
