Koni shocks and H&R sport springs

Post by DanielS172 »

Hey Brian,

I'm new to the forum (first post! ) and in need of your sage wisdom here. I found a package of Koni yellow sport shocks and H&R sport springs for sale on Tire Rack for... wait for it... $654.00 SHIPPED. Before I pull the trigger, I wanted to ask a few questions:

1. Do you have any experience with this setup?
2. Do you think the drop/ride height will be too low?
3. What length of bumpstops would you recommend?

Important info on my car:

- 2006 MX-5
- Flyin' Miata front and rear sways
- Soft top and factory removable hardtop
- OEM 17" wheels with 215/45 tires
- The car is used as a weekend/light duty track car (HPDE events)

Let me know if you need anything else to give your assessment. I appreciate it very much.

Love those Koni Shocks....not a big fan of using that shock with that spring. That deal is a closeout because Koni has killed that kit and Tirerack got some kits at clearance deal. They are changing the kit to include Eibach springs. The H&R springs are on our site and we list lowering at 1.4 inches but KONI low pressure shocks will add another half inch lowering such that you end up 2 inches low to start....and they will settle lower over time. So, as long as you are okay being low, that setup will be fun. It will be too low to clear 235/40 tires, but I see you are running just 215mm tires and those will be fine even after this setup settles. I would look to our FCM stops for lowered cars, part number 61-0792.

Thanks for your input, Brian.

On a side note, I was also looking into the Tein Flex Z coilovers. I see that on your site it says the next batch has an ETA of August, but do you have any updates on this?

Latest whispers out of TEIN is that the wait may be even longer on those....

Bummer, but I figured as much.

If you don't mind me asking, what is it you don't like about the H&R springs with the Koni shocks?
