You guys were in such a hurry to get this thing ready to go that the current configuration isn't quite clear. Can we get an update on sway bars and bracing (if any) currently on the car? Looks like the front brakes are still the Goodwin budget Wilwood big brake kit vs the intended Stop Tech kit.

Hopefully the fresh brakes, and potential boost increase in the final session will allow Ryan to cut a few more seconds and climb up the leader board a bit more. Pretty tightly grouped in the middle of the class currently, so every second can mean a place higher or more.

Surprised to only see one Miata on the competitor list this year - thanks for representing

Yep, the Stoptech brakes planned for the car didn't fit without 5mm spacer and we didn't have room for that. Added new OSGIKEN limited slip because we knew our power level was getting beyond what stock Torsen would live with, that OSGIKEN when new is so tight it typically adds oversteer, and we needed more roll resistance, so for both issues we countered with Progress RX8 front bar. Still got the MeisterR coilovers in there but bumped spring rates to 13kg front and 9kg rear. I think just factory bracing everywhere currently. Our 17x10 wheels and Yoko A052 255/40 tires. Rear Nine Lives wing that we had in our return bargain bin for shipping damage, front splittler is wood that we cut with jigsaw and rattle can painted black, with additional air dam additions by Moti. Two oil coolers that were discards from other projects and that still wasn't enough, will likely use really big cooler that came off NCLIGHT for next event with this car. That's about all I can think of now, but Ryan likely has more to talk about when he is back in 2 days.

From Ryan:

That’s a wrap for Superlap Battle USA! We were the ONLY Miata/MX5 participating in time attack at the event this year so the pressure was on to represent for our Roadster family! Despite challenges like swapping a clutch/transmission on the first day, we persevered and missed only one session from that and ran every single session on day 2, improving on our PB session after session. We ended with a solid 2:31.8 with a car we prepped in just a matter of weeks, costing half or even 1/4 of much of the competition, and had an awesome time beginning to end! Couldn’t be prouder of our team and a big thank you to everyone who came by to say hi and see the car!

Just got back to CA. Texas is a long tow! Incredible weekend.

Image

When fate put us on the backup junkyard 5 speed early on day 1, we turned the boost down to make sure we made it through the weekend. With the 3.6 rear ratio that we have in there that was intended for the 6 speed, the 5 speed gears were really long and far from ideal, doubly so with less power - I didn't even get out of 4th gear on the back straight, and the car didn't burst out of the corners like it had on the 6 speed and more boost. That combination cost us a chunk of time but we focused on getting the car setup dialed in, and I focused on getting the most out of it on the track with what we had. We have some suspicion that full throttle in 3rd while running over the rumble strips caused some driveline shock that contributed to the clutch failure, so I played it safe and avoided some of the harsher curbing, which also cost a bit of time, but again our focus was to run all weekend. And that we did, setting times mid-pack amidst cars 2x, 3x, 4x the cost of our NC project! For a very ambitious goal to run at the largest time attack event in the Nation with just weeks to prepare our "plan B" car instead of the HyperMiata, we couldn't be happier with the performance.

Here is a lap around Circuit of the Americas!

More to come but FIRST... some much needed sleep

When I'm at SEMA sometimes I'll come around a corner and amidst the shiny show stuff there will be a race car from some recent race still with all the bugs and dirt all over it, all rough around the edges. A clean car is pretty, but the dirt and dings tell stories of speed and adrenaline, and that's always my favorite type of car to see.

So we just rolled the NC out of the trailer and shot a quick walk around video. The race weekend is such a whirlwind there's no time to do anything like this there, but thought it might be fun to look at the car in all it's brake-dust and tire-boogered glory just as it rolled off the race track :)

Pardon the audio, the moment we get the camera out to shoot something it seems the entire city descends on us with every noise making contraption it can throw our way. And yes, our building is next to a trolley. Working on a better mic setup to improve that in the future.

Got requests for Wilwood's new 'Type III Anodizing" aka Grey/Silver' Caliper finish for the Budget NC Kit. Added today to the site for both 4 piston and 6 piston, just select the silver option.

We've had a few people asking about what vinyl we used on this car's trunk that so closely matched the factory silver.

We used Oracal 970 wrap vinyl in Silver Grey Metallic (color code 090).
