HELMHOLTZ Midpipe - Supercharged NC

Post by MarcC695 »

I recently supercharged my NC with a Kraftwerks and around 3500 - 4500 the noise is excessive. Prior to the supercharger, between 3000- 4500 the car sounded awesome with a throaty exhaust. The car has headers, Goodwin midpipe and the Super Q back box.
I am wondering if the HELMHOLTZ midpipe will remove this excessive noise - drone. Does anyone have an opinion that may help?

I run our Supercharged NC with our 2 inch headers, Helmholtz Midpipe, and SuperQ muffler.

I have tried EVERY other configuration we can do with all the choices we offer, that's the only one above that has control on the drone. If moving from our standard midpipe there is a tradeoff, you will get a bit more rasp that fiber resonator is currently catching for you, but the Helmholtz chamber will cut drone. My suggestion is our 5 inch converter, which helps on rasp control. I don't like the 4 inch converter with supercharger, it won't live long enough and it lets too much rasp through.

Thank you for your reply.
Would I need to remap the ecu again or can I use the existing supercharger tune?

Change from one of our 2.5 inch diameter midpipes to another has no impact on the tune, flow is the same.

I placed the order with MX5 Parts Australia and it should be turning up in the next couple of days.
Will the standard exhaust hangers fit or should I get longer ones?

I fitted my midpipe today. Only one of my braces didn’t have clearance, a bar which ties the rear chassis rails together just before the back box.
I bottomed out when I pushed the 2 parts of the exhaust together. If I cut a 3/4” off the midpipe to shorten it, would this have pulled the rear pipe up more ? The exhaust was approximately 1/2 too low to get my brace to fit.
Could I have used my existing front of my exhaust?
