What did I buy?

Post by JeffR063 »

I've had my 2015 for a few months now and am making plans for some improvements. A Bosectomy will happen very soon! I got a GT PRHT with sport suspension and Bilsteins, but mainly I wanted the limited slip that comes with that package. My question is what exactly is their "sport suspension" and how does it compare with Progress springs and sway bars? Would budgeting for other components first make more of a difference, e.g., exhaust, flywheel?

Hi Jeff

Congrats on new toy. The only value in the Sports suspension is that limited slip and I regularly tell folks that it is worth getting just for that. Otherwise same soft springs as all other versions of the car and same soft sways....but with slightly better Bilstein shocks. The Progress springs would be a bit stiffer than stock springs, and the PRogress sways would be massively more sway bar than stock sways.

Thanks for that clarification. The components being essentially the normal components isn't much of a surprise. Sways and springs it is. Would you recommend running the Bilsteins for now, or wait until I can pop for sways, springs, and shocks all at once?

On my wife's 2012, one of our project cars linked from front page of our site and shown below, we stayed with the stock Sport package Bilsteins and Progress Springs and stock bumpstops and that worked out great. We later added the Progress Sways.

I had noticed that you had only listed the sways and springs for that car. I was wondering why you left the shocks original. Now I know.

Since they are relatively inexpensive, why didn't you replace the bumpstops as well? It sounds like with the new suspension parts, the car would readily ride the stock stops in corners. Wouldn't it be better to use the suspension, which I understand new stops allow for?

Thanks for the help and advice.

We get lots of questions about changing the stops, decided to start with stock bumpstops and test the result and with the Bilsteins that works great. Once we add KONI shocks to customer cars the extra lowering means either stock stops need to be trimmed or a better stop needs to be added, such as our FCM stops for lowered cars.
