Results finally posted today from last SCCA event....the Good-Win Racing ND2 is NUMBER ONE of 101 competitors!

That's a very satisfying result!

Hard to argue with miata as the autocross answer when top four PAX cars are all Miata, and 5 of top 10 finishers are Miata!

Brian,

Are you running the 225/45-17 BFG or B'stone? I've seen some chatter on Miata boards about people considering going to a shorter tire due to the extended 2nd gear redline. Have you considered this option?

Yes, 225/45/17. We touch redline in 2nd gear at many events here, often two or three times on a west lot course without enough time to jump to third gear, so we lack much incentive to go shorter on tire here. I understand that in many regions the events are tighter and slower so perhaps elsewhere the hole shot advantage will exist because they are not banging the limiter, but here that is not the case.

Our west lot BMW Club events are generally a lot faster than SCCA. With some of our cars we have intentionally gone shorter for their events because we know we will be in third gear anyway and yet not so fast that we run out of third gear, have used 225/40/17 with success at those events (not a CS car).

Experiments never end. Outside of Chuck and Nathan most will not understand how massive the coverage is with this helmholtz, but it's pretty massive coverage! Peak coverage goes off the scale, reaches 60db. Working with the particular metrics of a supercharged ND and Header NDs, which is the highest challenge in trying to do a clean straight through (most competitors don't bother, they just make restrictive choices with seriously twisted internal layouts that take away some of the peak hp they would otherwise get with header and/or supercharger). Supercharger with header is the hardest sound control challenge, blows harder on entire system and testing finds the peak drone is not focused merely in the usual 120-130 range but shifts higher and has two peaks to hit. This is the largest Helmholtz we have ever tried on an ND, not sure anything goes to production with this but testing will continue! Result is volume is not near as controlled as our SuperQ quiet 'header' version muffler, this is much more aggressive, but sound is seriously exotic in the run to redline, seriously fun.

The new fun adjustable perch KONI are here! Yes for anyone wanting some lowering with stock springs (but for CS must use TOP perch position). Also great with our RoadsterSport springs, or use of our Roadstersport springs for SOFT TOP ON THE RF (top perch rear, one position lower front).

Most people have a hard time wrapping their head around "dB" numbers. Since most of my work is on radar systems, it's pretty second nature by now. The easy figures to remember are that 3dB is a factor of 2 and 10dB is a factor of 10. So while 60dB doesn't really sound that impressive at first, it equates to a factor of 10E6 or 1 million. So a 60dB reduction means that 99.9999% of the sound at the tuned frequency is being cancelled out. That's unbelievably impressive!!!

A return to TOP CS Time and TOP PAX result today!

Made changes to the car seeking better turn-in response, less understeer, went back to hardest rear stop. Previously abandoned the hardest rear stop because of too much oversteer but spent the practice day yesterday working on the other settings of the car trying to make it all work with the hardest rear stops, and frankly working on the driver's ability (me...) to work with that harder tail. The goal was less understeer and better rotation....and yet not too much. Spent a lot of time yesterday at SCCA Practice day trying shock settings that didn't work, including one GRAND SPIN through the middle of the course!


But it was all worth it, today I attacked the course with first lap and set top Pax for the day...without a co-driver to warm the tires for me! Went on to reset the Top Pax and it held for the event. Well over 100 competitors today, and 10 fast friends in CS, repeatedly taking home Top Pax this season is a real tribute to what the ND2 Miata can do with light prep and some trial and error on the settings.
