Fiat 124 Aluminum Coolant Expansion Tank
2017-2020
We noticed a significant number of Fiats with coolant leaks, including failures of the plastic factory coolant expansion tank. When that tank fails the results can include a failed motor because suddenly there is no pressure in the cooling system and lack of pressure massively compromises the cooling system effectiveness. A Fiat 124 with failing coolant expansion tank can overheat just sitting still, often before the owner has reason to notice. We went through similar with the NC generation Miata and after replacing lots of engines that overheated in the NC generation Miata we approached our friends at Moroso to make a coolant expansion tank for that application that wouldn't get brittle and fail like the factory plastic version eventually does. Thus it made sense with a growing number of Fiat 124 expansion tank failures to again approach our friends at Moroso and do a high quality metal replacement. Yes, it costs more than the factory plastic, but it won't leave you stranded and it might just save your motor!
Available in POLISHED as you see above, or black powder coat as you see below:

Re: PROJECT FIAT 124, Testing, Measurements, Dyno, etc
Customer brought 124 for install of exhaust today. We joke about how small the Fiat124 turbo is, and the motor too, and sometimes joke that you need to beat all them squirrels in there to get max performance. This is not what we meant. Five more and customer can make a hat.

READY for FUN at Sonoma Raceway!
Off with my red street hood and my red trunk. On with the junkyard hood that we vented for best cooling on track and on with junkyard rear trunk that we used to mount the Blackbird Spoiler that gives good balance with our front APR Splitter.

Re: PROJECT FIAT 124, Testing, Measurements, Dyno, etc
Getting Fiat 124 Ready for Miata Reunion Fun and noticed our panel under the motor was missing. We had pulled it for replication of our modified version that puts more air over the cooling fits of motor oil pan. That item is still at the factory so our Ryan Passey grabbed a standard ND oil pan shield and did a quite fabrication effort that includes the scoop plus replicates the factory NACA duct that pushes air up the tunnel where the turbo and converter reside. You can see the finned oil pan of the Fiat 1.4Turbo motor. Our NACA duct should put at least twice as much air up to cool the cat and turbo space as the stock unit.

Re: PROJECT FIAT 124, Testing, Measurements, Dyno, etc
Fiat Sonoma Raceway Fun!
Fiat was our first car on track Friday during the test and tune. Good fun laps. We did eventually notice the sound of an exhaust leak. Typical turbo at the track fun is having a stud back out in the exhaust system. So we hunted down the loose bits and got it tight again, but found that one stud from manifold into the head had fallen out completely on the track. With that we retired the Fiat from the track fun late Friday afternoon with the plan to have it autocross Saturday and get back on track for Sunday as long as remaining studs stayed snug. The autocross ended up squished into such a tight space that I did one run in the Fiat 124 and quit, too many first gear turns is just not my idea of a fun autocross. The organizers just didn't have enough space to do a fun autocross course. Meanwhile, with RAIN now in the forecast for Sunday we had about 30 customers trying to get rides in the 2.5 liter NC that has new coilovers that customers were hungry to ride on. So, Ryan and I ended up double stinting that car all day Saturday to give rides to all those customers.
Then as picture above shows it rained Sunday. With 9 hours of towing to get home we usually leave Sunday around lunch and track was just starting to get some Sun about the time we left so no runs for us on Sunday.

Autocross Fun at BMW Club Today in the Fiat 124.
Old crusty date code 2021 tires meant some extra challenge keeping it moving the right direction but we got the job done. BMW Club event and "GOLD Class" is for all the instructors and we can run ANYTHING in this class that has four wheels.

NEW COILOVER PROJECT.
Prototype Install KONI RACE Coilovers. Much like our NC setup, but for ND and Fiat 124. Test set installed and we are driving it.
