I guess it was around 35°. I used tthe MPSS on the track once too - not as good as my RE-71R's, but I hear the MPSS heat cycle better and definitely last longer.

I don't see these in 235/40/17.

My current favorite tire is the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500. They're lightweight, relatively quiet, have good grip & response, and are inexpensive, especially compared to Michelin. I just do street driving, where the potential extra grip of max or extreme performance summer tires isn't necessary. They are listed as ultra high performance summer, however I think they perform like max performance tires. The only downside I have noticed is a tendency to flat spot after sitting a week or two. A couple miles of driving eliminates the flat spots.

As far as mileage, I have never been able to get more than 15k miles per set of summer tires (ie once per year), no matter which brand I install. I guess I'm too spirited around the curves! I have never used all season tires, being I live in coastal California and the temps never drop below 30 degrees. I can't imagine El Paso being much different...

I didn't try searching for the tire prior to recommending it. I didn't realize so few tires were offered in this size - I guess it has been a couple years since I looked...
