Great comparison! How is the NVH vs the 2.0 (since you have to remove the balance shafts)? Some have likened it to the NA/NB ecotec swap where it has tons of grunt, but lots of vibes.

We added our stiffer RoadsterSport Engine mounts with the 2.5 install, so that means I cannot tell you pure apples to apples what it would have been like vs 2.0 with stock mounts. There is some more vibs at idle, some of that the 2.5 and some of that the stiffer mounts. Beyond idle I don't notice it much, and the torque is addictive!

One thing we did here was keep stock flywheel, that heavier stock flywheel helps keep things smooth with the bigger unbalanced 2.5, going to light flywheel and the 2.5 is a combo I don't like as much because you notice more of the lack of balance shafts.

I think that may have been a large part in why I hated the ecotec in my NB. I did a 1.6 size lightweight flywheel, and that engine had loads of vibes. I need to find someone with a 2.5 so I can try it!

Yes, just a reflash to make that happen.

Don't suppose I could convince you to complicate the matter by finishing the old ignition set-up you were tinkering with eons ago?

Iirc that was 10-15hp almost for "free", in a sense at least?

(Am I right in thinking it was an issue that resulted from high hp, or were you just unlucky with that car?)

We may get to that ignition setup, it was significant at 300 hp level, not sure we would notice at 200 hp level.

Looks like I'll have to re-read that thread - I'd thought it was a fault - once again it points to just how robust the NC package is.

I know it's highly impractical, but I'm having visions of workshops where people "rent" tools & knowledge in order to build their own cars so as to keep costs at a minimum whilst maximising the potential of the NC platform

Maybe once the age of the electric car is truely upon us!
