Torn between exhaust with tune and turbo

Postby Albert Flasher » Fri Feb 28, 2020 10:10 pm

I am looking to add extra power to my 2018 RF Club, which 10-1 will only be used on the street. I am currently torn between going with a new exhaust system with a Fab9 tune and the AVO Turbo kit Fab9 has on their site.

A Fab9 Tune and Magnaflow Catback plus RoadsterSport Super Q Twin Tip would cost around $1,600.00 plus shipping.
It sounds like a tune with a catback system might bring me around 30 HP max, while the AVO Turbo kit doesn't make any claims to power gains. Price is $3,850.00 plus tune and shipping and then possibly add a new exhaust for another $1,200.00.

I would like to maintain reliability and ease of maintenance as well as remain as civil, in regard to noise, as possible. I'm looking for those with experience and opinions, based on experience, with either of these two forms of modifications.

Not much in common between those choices. We ran the AVO turbo, solid kit, reliable, we made about 300 ft/lbs torque at 12 psi. Obviously mere tune and exhaust system not going to even approach what the turbo can do in terms of adding grunt. Turbo makes exhaust system choice really quiet, we ran our RoadsterSport Race with the turbo and the turbo makes it quite mild.

Exactly as I see it, one costs a lot more but it is a lot more! It's a super clean set up, the AVO Turbo it is. It might also get me into trouble...although I've been able to avoid that on my '06 CBR 1000-RR! I think I'm going to start with a tune and go from there...small steps might be best.
