Miata Street Touring classes

Post by MichaelB754 »

Maybe someone smarter than myself can explain this:

Naturally aspirated NA/NB Miatas making 100-130HP, weighing between 2,200-2,400lbs are in the same class (STR) as NC/ND Miatas making 160-180HP, weighing between 2,400-2500lbs.

Yet, for some reason, the MazdaSpeed Miata making 170HP, Weighing 2,500lbs is somehow in the STU class?

It would be more understandable if the NC/ND/MSM were in STX, and the N/A NA and NB would stay in STR.

But how it sits now, just doesn't make any sense to me. Why is this?

Even with full Bolt-Ons + Tune, the MSM only makes ~200WHP. Don't the NC/NDs do the same?

The funny thing is that I use to own an STX Class BRZ, and even after full bolt-ons and Tune, it still only made ~200WHP. Another reason I think the MSM and NC/ND belong in STX not STR/STU.

I will be the first to agree that the classing for MSM has never made any sense.
