Miata NB oversteer too much!

Post by s2000 »

Hey everybody!

I am "SENDA" brother. I compete with him in AX in Israel.

I have a 2004 Miata NB and recentley installed Koni shocks + GC 375/250 springs.

My problem is that my Miata have too much oversteer!

Its alot of fun to drive it everyday but I can't compete with it!
Every hard turn I make I have to counter steer.
I tryed to play with the stifness of the shocks in verious modes and I still don't get the grip that I wish for!

I also got the wheel alighment that a friend sugessted me:
Camber -2
Caster 7
Rear Toe -0.13 - I aimd higher but because my car is too low it couldn't be done.
Front Toe 0

My NB now is 5.5 cm lower!! I'm planning of raising the hight this weeks by 2 cm.

Do you have any other sugesstion for this problem?

This is a little damonstration of suterday, 7th April

That Car looks VERY low. Is it possible you are running out of shock travel in the rear and riding on the bump stops ?? This would cause your issues i believe..

Measure the distance between the top lip of your fender and the center of your wheel and let us know that measurement ..

Are you running a rear sway bar? When we get that low we often take off the rear sway. Or, we run factory rear sway and BIG front sway.

In general, the lower a Miata...the less rear sway bar it needs.

Not just possible. I'm nearly 100% sure she is bump stopping given the soft spring rate.

The car has no improvement over the koni and the GC.

The car mechanic told me he aim the springs to 35mm , but he did not measure the car before and after.

The car is the sport version, so mybe there is orginal sway bar? mybe we need to remove it?

Our first AX will be on sat, friday is our last day of tuning.

Thanks for the help

You need a bigger front sway bar....but since you likely will not get it by this next event I would remove the rear bar and that should fix it enough.
