Racing Beat and reducing the bumpers

Post by hhowey »

Racing Beat has some very explicit instructions about shaving the bumpers when installing springs that also lower the car:

Are these a "must" for all spring replacements, not to mention, e.g. a KONI replacement?

Why does one not read of this from other manufacturers?

I assume any coilovers have already dealt with this.

Coilovers usually have both shortened shock bodies and shorter bumpstops. This instruction to cut the bumpstop is common and included on other choices such as Ground Control, etc. It is recommended though not a "must" but without doing it you spend a lot of time on the bumpstops which effectively jacks your spring rates.

Brian,

I liiked at EIBACH and H&R websites, and they said nothing about it.

In fact, Mazda was not even mentioned;-)
